Engineering Review Notes for Chemical Ceramic Parts
Chemical ceramic components should be reviewed by media contact first. A ceramic that is strong in dry wear may not be the best choice for corrosive liquids, thermal cycling or high-purity process contact.Information to share before material review
- Chemical media, concentration, temperature, pressure, particles and whether the part contacts liquid, gas, powder or molten material.
- Drawing, sealing surfaces, flow paths, wall thickness, holes, slots and critical tolerances.
- Cleaning method, purity expectation, contamination limit and service life target.
- Failure mode of the existing part, such as corrosion, wear, cracking, leakage or dimensional change.
How we use this information
- Review whether alumina, zirconia, silicon carbide, porous ceramic or another material is the best starting point.
- Check manufacturability of tubes, nozzles, liners, sleeves and flow features before quoting.
- Identify sealing or contact surfaces where surface finish and tolerance are more important than bulk material alone.
